I was at surfers all of last night and this morning pulling an all nighter, early this morning on the beach some police were on the beach watching the sobering up schoolies so I struck up a bit of a convo up with some of them and got them to line up facing the east.
Hopefully the pic will adorn the logan central police headqaurters one day soon.
It's all legit I had a media pass and permission from all the officers before hand so let me know what you think.

i like this shot.... perhaps a flash -2/3 to bring out just the reflective tape and wording without affecting the rest of the scenery might be interesting?
nicely done.
cheers

I tried that with another shot when they were near the landcruiser and yeh the reflective stuff is really effective because it reflects like all hell even with the sb800's red AF light.
Thanks for the comment though mark and I haven't forgotten about the guiness either so don't worry next time Im in bris/coast non work related Ill cough up.

Great shot!
Has one of them (2nd from the right) got his vest on the wrong way? Maybe he's new?
I agree - a little bit of flash fill would improve this shot.

Firstly Geoff it's a she
I did try a bit of fill with the vests on but the amount it needed to have an effect was enough for the reflectors to be really really well illuminated which kind of distracted view away from the sunrise I thought.
perhaps I could of used quick mask to darken the reflectors a little I guess.
Oh well next time perhaps.

I think it's a great shot Michael and I know what you mean about the reflective material blowing out with even the merest hint of flash.
One possible workaround (and I think this shot would merit it) would be to duplicate it as a PS layer, then mask the sky out and set the top layer to "screen'' mode: experiment with the percentage. This should help lighten the subjects up to the desired level. Just a suggestion...
Regards, Tim
