Hi All well here is a few pics from my afternoon, all pics with 300m with 1.4x kenko so 420m and a very dusty day so stayed up wind.

Did the backend bounce off the side after the second shot? It looks strange the way it's being launched into the air from the rear like that.

Ahhhh ... such fun. Brings back memories of the days when I used to navigate in rallies.

Alpha_7 - it's unlikely that these guys will be professional. Just a couple of clubbies out for their form of recreation, just as a more normal person might go for a jog or a swim or play footy.

Oli yes u r right it did hit the embankment and it all went wrong from there but he got out ok.

Gary is also right this was a club day/nite meet so these guys are locals making the most of it all. He was not the only 1 to come unstuck at this corner as a friend of mine did as well but he got a front flat tire as he came into this, but didn't roll it.

Was a good arvo lots of dust tho and wish i had a faster FPS and well after next week i will when my D2X arrives. A few small fix ups on this car and he was back into it a lil bit later on, car looking a bit worse off but didn't stop him.

Ahhhh ... ye olde 180BSSS! A great car, but not a patch on the old 1600, which is probably one of the best ever cars to have come out of Japan.

I hope your friend has strengthened the trailing arms in that car.

But at least, being the SSS, he has the Hitachi electrics.

The sedans were locally assembled, and had electrics by Lucas, the Prince of Darkness. Amongst the more common problems were altenator failure, and also failure of the wiper assembly, which included a very waek pressed metal connecting rod between the motor and the wipers, and which would fatigue very quickly.

Whereas replacement of those parts was quite routine on the sedans, it was unheard of on the coupes. Mind you, for a rally you'd be beefing up the alternator anyway, and possibly even running dual altenators.

Actually, properly conducted, motor sport is a very safe pasttime.

The safety features that are in the cars these days are really quite effective. What I find incredible is watching the guys on the bikes, who regularly come off at all sorts of speeds, have other bikes run across the top of them, roll over a few times for good measure, and they just get up, dust themselves down, and walk away!

And people say that I'm crazy!

I'd like one of these orig SSS's or certainly the 1800, either way I'd be shoehorning the SR20DET from an S15 into it, managing that with a Motec electronics system and trying to keep it visually as close to being a sleeper as I could without compromising on ride quality.

All I can say to these pics is that I'm dead jealous! Pity the D2X hadn't arrived earlier for BBS. Makes me want to head back out to Warwick raceway and give my wife some more defensive driving practice. *chuckles* Not good for insurance reasons though. lol

The third shot of the first series really works for me. Not much fun being stuck in a car at the very moment you're kinda just only able to hold on and not control that car in any way whatsoever. Glad he had a rollbar! hehe

The 1600's are certainly still very tough cars. Witnessed a street race north of Brisbane where a GTR Skyline owner had to eat humble pie courtesy of a very plain looking 1600 that had a very high PSI SR20 turbo setup. The racket that car made was incredible and I've only seen other cars take off faster on a real 1/4mile track. Just a pity these lads weren't playing on a real track. |:

Brisbane is frustrating like that though. It's a bloodly long drive out to anywhere decent for legal racing since Lakeside was shut down.

Max i had the 300m with the 1.4x Kenko so 420m and i was out of the road off to 1 side, this is why when it rolled i had no zoom to get the whole car in frame. There was so much dust and with the breeze we had i stayed down on a corner to shoot them coming around and advoiding the dust.

Let's just say that I've spent more than my fair share of time in, and under, a fair few rally cars.

We started in a 1300, 6V VW. That car was a mobile blackout!

The Datsun 1600s were far better, and far more fun. In those days we just upgraded the engine to 1800SSS or 200B donks, and did what we could with the engine, plus, of course, shortened the gearing.

And I can recall being sweep on one event in Narooma, for which Gerry, who normally drove for me, was th director. We happenned across this 1600 with the left rear wheel collapsed under the car. I stopped the car, we looked at one another, smiled, and we then called out to the crew "Drop a trailing arm, did we?"

"How did you know?" was their response.

I've just spent far too much time under my own car and other pulsar club members' cars - engine swaps, upgrades of suspension and brakes ect.

Been entertained for years by the pain and issues suffered by friends who have worked on Austen Healy Sprites and other classics.

Hope to upgrade to a Pergeot 206GTi 180hp toy that will not need upgrades or specialised insurance and that will get me out to willowbank raceway for photography without overheating during the race seasons.

Still laughing my ass off at BBJ's "quick change of jocks" comment So appropriate. Wish someone had gotten a shot of either my face as I slid in the wet one night and hung the car over a decent drop or ..... better still, gotten a shot of my friends face as his car slid off the side of a cliff on Mt Glorious and then rolled down over lantana about 6 times coming to rest right way up and only partially bruised and scratched.
