Night Macros Pt I

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Night Macros Pt I

Postby pippin88 on Fri Oct 14, 2005 11:38 pm

Decided to have a play outside tonight.

I'm in the Blue Mountains, and it's pitch black, misty and rainy. So armed with my Sigma 105, SB800 and a head torch I stepped out into the fray.

Shots are manual focussed and handheld. Head torch strap was wrapped around lens, so that the torch pointed roughly at the subject to allow me to see. Some arn't dead sharp focus, but it was a test of idea.

Nice shots and well into darkness venture! great works!

I thought you've been assigned to that spot to do the works as shooting the property for your parent's business, but you didn't, and only playing with macro at night   Or you tried to find some night movement shots for the challenge No:7?

Enjoy your stay! should be a nice weekend and lovely shots come out later in the day from you! keep 'em coming!

Nick

#7 to #10 are my picks as well. These work because you've managed to use the lighting conditions to isolate the flower from it's background so it's effectively floating in mid air. This has the positive effect of focussing attention completely on the lovely sharp flower image you've captured with no other distractions. Well done.

Thanks for all the critiques.

That was one of the great things about doing it at night - very easy to get good subject isolation.

With #8 - Reds were getting severly blown out (something I've noticed with using flash - if it's a red flower it's almost not worth bothering). So I had to reduce sat to -99 in RSE, then I brought it back up in levels in PS.

I've posted another lot: http://www.dslrusers.net/viewtopic.php?t=10322
