My first attempt at macro

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please critic ( and don't be shy) I need the help. I feel very hesitant about posting after viewing the fabulous work I see on this site.

Ribbit Ribbit!

A nice first offering, I'm certainly no macro expert. For me the first one is good, the eyes are pretty sharp, but a bit more DOF would of helped... I would of liked to see a bit of detail of of his back.

The second shot I get the detail of his back, but lose the detail in the eye... but you have great texture in the skin that I really like.

No need to by shy and hesitant, Doug. The first rule is to please yourself with your photos. Anything more than that is gravy. :D

These shots are pretty good, sharp and nicely composed. They are a little dark, IMO, needing a little better lighting to make them pop.

Shooting at f/4.5 iso200 is going to severely limit your DOF, which is a premium on macro/closeup shots. The first shot, at f/10 is better, but f/16 isn't something to ignore, depending on your intent for the shot.

Keep after it, you're doing fine. :)

both shots seem sharp enough but both could do with more light.

More flash??

perhaps a little extra colour saturation for some zing

I'd call it closeup rather than macro.

Thit is really bizzare frog. It looks like plastic toy. Just thinking that kind of lighting can help to archive the feeling. Really bizzare :)

G'day Doug,
Gee if these are your first efforts your next are gonna be great!

Like the first more as it shows the detail and character in the face, just needs a smidge of brightening up.

Well done.
