Some bridge pics-ongoing project

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Those who know me are aware that I just love going back to the same subject time and again and again. I love looking at things through fresh eyes and figuring out how to capture the essence of a structure using less information. Simple is often beautiful.

Matt, you are right, simple is often beautiful. I like the 3rd one best by far. I think the contrast in directional shapes from the foreground to the background make this shot. I wish I had more time to get out and about shooting :)

Matt

I love the detail in #1 - especially given the fact you had a whole range of black tones to bring out and succeeded, thus giving the rich detail that the image (and the structure) deserve, but  I find the curve RHS conflicts with the rest of the image which is all sharp angles.

#2 - Better than #1 for me and again a beautiful exercise in bringing out the subtle tones in an image. You've kept all the detail without making the image look unnatural

#3- Saving the best for last. Awesome shot. This is what I love about viewing the work of others. There is nothing that gives me greater pleasure (well almost nothing) than that ah-hah moment when you see the creative vision of another give a different spin on the familiar. You've achieved that to perfection in this one. Interestingly this image is completely disconnected from it's subject (it could have been taken anywhere), yet succeeds because of the lovely geometrical qualities of the bridge superstructure. This is one you can come back to again and again.

Thanks for these.
Peter

Pick of the bunch is the graphic qualities of #3 for me Matt. Excellent colour, excellent contrast, excellent abstraction. I really like that one a lot.

3 great shots Matt.

#3 is also the pick of the shots for me. So simple but so elegant.

Matt,
Simple is beautiful.
I agree with you.
Beauty is only in someone like you with camera eyes.
