Sydney Night Shoot - May 25, 2005 - Lighting Up The Night

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

very nice, although im thinking it would be a cool effect to use the torch or whatever to outline buildings in the background.

What would be truly cool would be to shoot it with several cameras at different angles and make an animation :)

Leigh

The second and last ones work for me - I can almost read letters  . The others don't for various reasons - first one is way too blown in the corner, third it's too insignificant, others look too random.

I understand conceptually how this was done, but can't for the life of me work out why I can't see a person at the end of the light. Can you enLIGHTen me

Thanks Leigh, good job
Next time I think we need to add more dynamic aspects and refine the execution of our light grafitti
1. We need an assortment of lights, a rainbow set of glowsticks, torches, firesticks, 18 century french imitation art nouveau lamps, glow in the dark teddybears etc
2. We need to effectively use the space, start far gradually straffing side to side working the entire area, to finish close to the camera with a fill flash at the end so we can capture the lightscriber.
3. Improve on the legibity of whatever we are trying to write
4. Hire breakdancers with glowsticks attached to their shoes, to lay down precision B.R.E.A.K.S doing whirlpools and stomping all over the place with slammin' grace
5. Lastly a Dynamic malange of fireworks, and explosions over a picturesque postcard Sydney Night Scape
Then and only then will we be genuine urban poets of light and slander.

Keep it Real Brother!

p.s stubbsy
no person at the end because we mortals don't reflect off enough light for the camera to capture, unless we use a fill flash at the end

Little does everyone know that you were trying to write the words "D70 users".

If you look at shoot 2, you kind of see these words backwards.

Lesson is to go forwards you need to go backwards. :?: :?: :?:
